Pre-made Ignite Child Themes

If you're not sure how to use or upload a child theme, please refer to our How to Use a Child Theme tutorial.

These pre-made child themes will help you customize the content and functionality of Ignite. Most require a small amount of customization and have instructions included here.

Empty Child theme

Custom Read More Text

Description: By default, Ignite displays a button after each Post excerpt on the blog that says, "Read More". This child theme contains a function that will override that default text.

Directions: On line 4 of the functions.php file, change the text that says, "Change This Text" to the text you want displayed in the button after excerpts.

Note: If you want to translate this text to your language, please follow our tutorial for translating Ignite instead.

Custom Comment Form Placeholders

Description: By default, Ignite shows HTML5 placeholders for inputs in the comment form. This child theme contains a function that will override the existing placeholders.

Directions: Replace or remove the text currently used for the placeholders in lines 24, 31, 38, and 49 of the functions.php file.

Show Allowed HTML Under Comment Form

Description: WordPress adds a list of allowed HTML characters under the post form by default (like this). Ignite has a function that removes this text. This child theme will add it back in.

Directions: This child theme will work automatically. Just activate it on your site to add the allowed HTML characters.

Change Ellipsis after Post Excerpts

Description: Ignite adds an ellipsis (…) after the last word in automatic excerpts. This child theme contains a function that will override the ellipsis with any character or text you'd like.

Directions: Replace the HTML character code for the ellipsis on line 4 of the functions.php file.

Enable Comments on Custom Post Types

Description: By default, Ignite does not display comments on custom post types. This child theme will not add comment support to custom post types. It will display the comments section if comments are already supported by a custom post type.

Directions: Locate the "if" statement on line 7 of the comments.php file. Change 'book' to the slug of the custom post type you want to show comments.

Show One Category on the Homepage

Description: The Blog is a special type of archive that displays all of your Posts in reverse-chronological order. This child theme will restrict the Posts on the Blog to just one category.

Directions: Change the integer in line 6 of the functions.php file to the ID of the category you want displayed on the Blog. To find the ID of a category, visit the Post Categories menu, click on a category to edit it, and you'll see the ID number in the URL (example ID 250).

Exclude Categories on the Homepage

Description: This child theme will exclude Posts in specific categories from the Blog.

Directions: Change the integers in line 5 of the functions.php file to the IDs of the categories you want removed from the Blog. This child theme is currently removing categories "3" and "1347" from the Blog.

To find the ID of a category, visit the Post Categories menu, click on a category to edit it, and you'll see the ID number in the URL (example ID 250).
