These pre-made child themes will help you customize the content and functionality of Unlimited. Most require a small amount of customization and have instructions included here.

Empty Child theme
If you're just looking for an empty child theme to get started with, you can download one here:
Custom Read More Text
Description: By default, Unlimited displays a button after each Post excerpt on the blog that says, "Read More". This child theme contains a function that will override that default text.
Directions: On line 4 of the functions.php file, change the text that says, "Change This Text" to the text you want displayed in the button after excerpts.
Note: If you want to translate this text to your language, please follow our tutorial for translating Unlimited instead.
Custom Comment Form Placeholders
Description: By default, Unlimited shows HTML5 placeholders for inputs in the comment form. This child theme contains a function that will override the existing placeholders.
Directions: Replace or remove the text currently used for the placeholders in lines 24, 31, 38, and 49 of the functions.php file.
Note: If you want to translate the placeholders to your language, please follow our tutorial for translating Unlimited instead.
Show Allowed HTML Under Comment Form
Description: WordPress adds a list of allowed HTML characters under the post form by default (like this). Unlimited has a function that removes this text. This child theme will add it back in.
Directions: This child theme will work automatically. Just activate it on your site to add the allowed HTML characters.
Change Ellipsis after Post Excerpts
Description: Unlimited adds an ellipsis (…) after the last word in automatic excerpts. This child theme contains a function that will override the ellipsis with any character or text you'd like.
Directions: Replace the HTML character code for the ellipsis on line 4 of the functions.php file.
Enable Comments on Custom Post Types
Description: By default, Unlimited does not display comments on custom post types. This child theme will not add comment support to custom post types. It will display the comments section if comments are already supported by a custom post type.
Directions: Locate the "if" statement on line 7 of the comments.php file. Change 'book' to the slug of the custom post type you want to show comments.
Show One Category on the Homepage
Description: The Blog is a special type of archive that displays all of your Posts in reverse-chronological order. This child theme will restrict the Posts on the Blog to just one category.
Directions: Change the integer in line 6 of the functions.php file to the ID of the category you want displayed on the Blog. To find the ID of a category, visit the Post Categories menu, click on a category to edit it, and you'll see the ID number in the URL (example ID 250).
Exclude Categories on the Homepage
Description: This child theme will exclude Posts in specific categories from the Blog.
Directions: Change the integers in line 5 of the functions.php file to the IDs of the categories you want removed from the Blog. This child theme is currently removing categories "3" and "1347" from the Blog.
To find the ID of a category, visit the Post Categories menu, click on a category to edit it, and you'll see the ID number in the URL (example ID 250).
