We’ve all had this experience:
You add a few items to your cart, browse some more, add a few more items to your cart, and then you see the total:
“$300!?”
On second thought, there are a few items that can wait for later, so you save these items via the Save for Later button on the cart page.
That’s how it works on Amazon and lots of other popular eCommerce sites.
Now imagine what it’s like without that button.
If your customers can’t easily save an item for later, they have to delete the items from the cart altogether, and the next time they return, they’re likely to completely forget about these items. Even worse, they might abandon their cart entirely.
In other words, letting customers save items for later will greatly increase the number of items they purchase over time.
And the good news is that there are excellent WooCommerce plugins available that can add Save for Later buttons to your site.
Keep reading to see which ones topped our list.
Save cart for later plugins
The plugins listed below can all be used to add buttons to your site for saving orders for future purchases.
You’ll find awesome features like cart saving and sharing, analytics on what items are saved, and exclusion rules for products you don’t want to be saved.
Without further ado, here are my top recommendations for the best WooCommerce save for later plugins.
1. YITH WooCommerce Save Cart for Buy Later
Plugin Description
YITH WooCommerce Save Cart for Buy Later is a straightforward solution to add cart-saving buttons to your store.
When customers view their cart, they’ll see a new “save for later” link under each product. If you’re using the YITH WooCommerce Wishlist plugin, you can give customers the option to send products to their wishlist instead.
Customers can find their list of saved products on their account page and they’re also listed at the bottom of the cart page. That’s a particularly effective technique for boosting sales. Next time they add items to their cart, they’ll see all the other items they considered in the past and might add some of them to their current order. This plugin has made it easy for them by including an “Add to Cart” button next to each saved item.
Overall, this is a really simple and effective WooCommerce plugin for adding a “save for later” option.
2. Save Cart Later
Plugin Description
Save Cart Later is another good plugin for adding an order saving feature, and it has a few features that set it apart from other plugins.
Instead of just adding a link to each product in the cart, this plugin adds a large “Save For Later” button that is much more prominent. It uses a similar button below the cart for returning saved items to the order. Even more helpful are the buttons to move all items to or from the cart. This allows customers to save an entire order for later, or add multiple items to their cart in one click.
Another interesting feature in this plugin is the ability to include or exclude products from the saving functionality. For instance, you could enable the “save for later” buttons on all your products and then exclude them for just a few, or only enable it for a handful of your products.
Save Cart Later has a few interesting features that could make it the best choice for your site. Not to mention, it’s priced the same as other solutions. Click the link below if you want to learn more.
3. Save for Later for WooCommerce
Plugin Description
Using the Save for Later for WooCommerce plugin, you can add a link to every cart item that visitors can click to save it for later. When a shopper saves an item, it shows up below their cart until deleted or added back into the cart. There’s an “add to cart” button next to every product making it easy for them to add saved items to their order.
This plugin works for both members and guests by using the browser’s cache to save items for guests who aren’t logged in. It also gives you reports and insights including what items are saved in each user’s cart. This could be used for email marketing purposes later.
You can get the essential functionality you need for a reasonable price with this plugin. The only downside is that the style of the saved items is very basic, so you will want to improve the aesthetic with some custom CSS of your own.
4. Save Now Buy Later for WooCommerce
Plugin Description
Save Now Buy Later for WooCommerce is an affordable and unique plugin for saving cart items.
With this plugin, users will click the “X” button to remove cart items like normal, but after pressing the button, they’ll be asked if they want to save it to their cart instead. Items saved in this way will show up on the cart page and can be added back to the cart in one click.
This plugin also includes some interesting analytics features. In your products menu, you can see how many times each product was saved and sort your products by those saved the most. There’s also a dashboard widget that displays similar data.
While the design of this plugin is interesting, I think they should have stuck to a more conventional approach. There isn’t a button available for saving cart items and it’s not obvious that attempting to remove an item will reveal the save option.
Overall, it’s a unique plugin with some interesting reporting data, but you may want to stick with a more conventional option.
Plugin Description
WooCommerce Cart Share and Save is a dual-purpose plugin that lets customers both save and share their carts.
From the cart page, customers will find a share button that they can click to open a modal popup. In the popup are links to share their cart on various social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and email.
To save their cart, users will click the same button and choose the “Save Cart” link from the list of options. While this works perfectly fine, I think it should have its own button separate from the share button.
A neat feature of this plugin is that you can review all of the saved carts in your dashboard and even manually send a “win back” email campaign that invites customers to complete their orders. This is one advantage of saving the entire cart together. However, the drawback is that items can’t be removed individually. Customers have to save and restore the entire contents of the cart together.
This plugin has some cool functionality but could frustrate users due to the inability to save individual items from the cart. It could be the best choice for your store, but you might create a better user experience using another plugin in this list.
Which save for later plugin is best for your store?
YITH WooCommerce Save Cart for Buy Later is my top recommendation because it’s easy to use and has a great design for your customers.
Save Cart Later is another good choice for many stores. While I don’t like the design quite as much, the buttons that can move all items to and from the cart are a nice upgrade.
